Armageddon
On July 4, 2005, NASA's 370 kilogram Deep Impact spacecraft collided into 9P/Comet Tempel 1 and confirmed that comets are natural sources of antimatter. The initial explosion and 19 hour spectacular show produced a billion times more energy than scientists had estimated. The Deep Impact spacecraft was destroyed in the initial explosion that was equal to 67 trillion mega-joules or enough energy to supplied the entire World's energy needs for over one hundred years. The explosion caused thousand of tons of antimatter blasted off the comet and produced a nineteen hour spectacular show. NASA was lucky that the explosion didn't blast the 350 billion metric ton antimatter comet into trillions pieces, which would have started Armageddon. The particles would have dispersed in an elliptical orbit around the Sun and start periodically colliding with Mars in January 2022. Armageddon would have started at the end of this century with antimatter meteors colliding with the Earth, producing massive nuclear explosions, and destroying everything known to mankind. Society will be helpless. There is nothing that can be done to stop the raining terror or find any protection from it. The future of humanity will be very bleak:
For the few that survive, it will be a living hell. After several months, the first faint hint of sunshine will come back. As the sky clears, they will be left with small quantities of food and in a cold, bitter environment. The good news is that they survived. The bad new is that there is more death and destruction to come.
This is an optimistic assessment. NASA should
inform the public about the dangers and opportunities
of antimatter. Astronomers and scientists should discuss
their plans to avoid collision with comets like
9P/Comet
Tempel 1; and how they plan to use antimatter to benefit humanity.
