The Whirlpool Galaxy

The Whirlpool galaxy is the most photographed galaxy by amateur & professional astronomers and can be viewed by small & large telescopes.  The galaxy has been studied in a range of wavelengths.  The picture clearly shows the matter & antimatter spiral arms.

The Hubble image on the left shows tje visible starlight as well as light from the emission of glowing hydrogen & anti-hydrogen, which is associated with the most luminous young stars in the spiral arms.

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope is helping researchers view in unprecedented detail the matter & antimatter spiral arms and dust clouds.  The matter & antimatter black holes in the center of the galaxy are the birth sites of massive luminous stars.

The galaxy is an intricate structure. Along the spiral arms, dust "spurs" are seen branching out almost perpendicular to the main spiral arms. The regularity & large number of these features suggests to astronomers that previous models of "two-arm" spiral galaxies may need to be revisited.  The image reveals a dust disk in the nucleus with matter & antimatter black holes.
